It’s not always easy for people to know how to prevent sports injuries. One reason it’s not easy is that there’s so much information out there about this topic. However, there’s a physical therapy team that may be able to help you find the right injury prevention for you.
Our Panther Physical Therapy team has gained a lot experience from helping patients since we started out in 2003. Today, our experience with many conditions and injuries allows us to help the residents of Harmony, Wexford and Allison Park, Pennsylvania find the therapy they need. We’re committed to using this experience to help our patients in several ways. For instance, we use our experience to build the best personalized physical therapy plan for each patient. We also draw on this wealth of experience when doing things like advising our patients about how to prevent sports injuries.
Two tips on how to prevent sports injuries
There’s something that our team at Panther Physical Therapy has noticed, and that’s the fact that many people have no idea how to prevent sports injuries. But, our team has two tips for you that may help.
One tip we have for you if you want to avoid injuring yourself while playing sports is to stretch. Our team is amazed by the number of patients who admit to us that they don’t stretch before they play. In many ways, your body is just like a pan on the stove. It works better if you let it warm up. The problem with not stretching is that you greatly increase your chances of injuring yourself. For instance, you may be more prone to pull muscles or injure joints if you haven’t stretched before your game.
The second tip we have for you if you want to reduce your chances of having a sports injury is watch your form. Our team knows that most sports are hard on your body. We also know this is true even for sports that you might not consider high-impact such as tennis. Playing your sport with the proper movement form is vital if you don’t want to be injured. For instance, let’s stick with the tennis example. Our team knows that tennis is hard on certain parts of your body. Some of the body parts it’s hard on include your feet, legs, ankles, back, shoulders and elbows. Having poor form when hitting the tennis ball, for instance, only makes tennis harder on your body, and our team knows that the harder you are on your body, the more likely you are to injure it by using poor movement form.
Panther Physical Therapy is here to help you put these two tips into action. Our team can build a prevention plan that includes targeted stretching routines. We can even include exercises that help support better playing form. There are also many other therapies and tips we can offer you that will teach you how to prevent sports injuries.
