Reduce fibromyalgia pain with two stretches in Wexford, PA

Fibromyalgia Pain Relief

Drugs are one of the most common treatment options for fibromyalgia in Wexford, Pennsylvania. However, some people might be looking for natural alternatives that can help provide fibromyalgia pain relief. Physical therapists can offer many natural treatment options for treating this condition, and one of the most commonly used of these options is therapeutic exercises. Here are two therapeutic stretching exercises that can help decrease fibromyalgia pain:

1.  Shoulder rolls

Your shoulders can easily become a storehouse of tension, and this tension can trigger a flare-up in your fibromyalgia pain. One therapeutic exercise that can help reduce shoulder tension and decrease fibromyalgia pain before it starts is shoulder rolls.

How to do shoulder rolls
  • Start the exercise by standing or sitting with good posture. If you choose to sit, make sure you’re using a stable chair.
  • Slowly lift your shoulders up, and then roll both shoulders backward. Try to breathe in as you do so.
  • Let your shoulders drop slowly, and then roll them forward. Exhale as your shoulders move forward.
  • Continue to repeat these steps until you’ve completed five to 10 rolls. After a short rest break, you should then repeat the exercise in the opposite direction.

2.   Lying trunk rotation

A tense lower back can be another trigger point for fibromyalgia flare-ups. You can relieve this tension naturally using a therapeutic exercise called the lying trunk rotation, and this movement can help reduce tension in your hips, too.

How to do the lying trunk rotation
  • To begin the lying trunk rotation, lie down on your back on your bed or on a yoga mat on the floor.
  • Slide both feet toward your butt until both knees are bent, but make sure your feet are still flat on the floor.
  • Slowly let both your knees sway to the right until you feel a stretch in your left hip and lower back. Then slowly return your knees to the neutral position.
  • Repeat this step to the left to stretch the opposite hip and lower back muscles.
  • Continue to repeat these steps until you’ve done five to 10 repetitions on both sides.
